New York Irish Center

The Slow Session - Traditional Music for Beginners

Every Saturday we offer a Slow Session where musicians of all instruments are welcome to practice playing Irish traditional tunes in a group setting. Tunes are practiced at a slow pace and players of all levels are welcome to bring sheet music or learn by ear as others play. A list of regular tunes is provided, although everyone is encouraged to introduce tunes they are comfortable playing. Even if you only know one or two tunes, this casual and friendly environment is an ideal introduction to playing in a traditional seisiun.

The session takes place in the downstairs library every Saturday from 1:30PM until 4PM. No registration is required, simply show up with your instrument and join in. The session is free, although small donations to the center are accepted.
