One of Ireland's most distinctive and truly unique singer songwriters, we are proud to present for one night only, Luka Bloom.  As part of his 2010 Fall U.S.Tour, Luka will grace our stage on Tuesday the 5th, and no doubt provide us with a memorable night's entertainment. For more information, samples of his music and reviews of his recent performances visit Luka Bloom's website.

Acclaimed singer/songwriter Ashley Davis will be with us on the evening of Friday the 22nd.  Raised on the plains of Kansas, she is a musician whose songs are as much a product of the natural beauty found in her childhood environment, as they are the bluegrass, folk and classic country sounds that surrounded her in her youth. Through her many travels and experiences, a MA from the University of Limerick in Traditional Irish Music, Ashley has grown into a true artist, whose influences live in ancient Celtic lore, and American folk music

If you missed the June event at Holy Trinity in Manhattan, you'll have another chance to come celebrate Fr. Colm Campbell's Golden Jubilee as a priest, at the Center on the 3rd.

The Cill Cais Players will be here on the 24th to perform two one-act plays: In the Shadow of the Glen by Synge, and Peggy O'Reilly's Purse by Seamus Burke.

We welcome the return of Aisling Arts to the Center, with their new play Wake; written by Pulitzer Prize nominee Bryn Mannion.  "From Ireland to Newfoundland, from New Bedford to New York, WAKE follows three generations of an Irish American family as the children try to excavate their parents’ stories and come to a truer sense of their family’s history."  The play's run will start on October 28th and continue through Mid-November November
I'll Live Til I Die: From Ireland, a retrospective of the famous Irish performer Delia Murphy on the 3rd.

THE CENTER'S DINNER DANCE

The New York Irish Center's Fifth Annual Dinner Dance, held at Terrace On The Park in Queens on Friday night May 21st was a great party and an unqualified success, attended by 800 Center supporters and raising significant funding for the Center's mission.

Our thanks to the Honorees, Maurice Regan and Mark Fox,  and to the Dinner Dance Committee for making Friday May 21st a night to remember.

Special kudos to Sean Downes for organizing an excellent affair, and to Chris Deignan for outstanding work on the Center's Commemorative Journal.

Join the New York Irish Center on...

You have reached the website of the New York Irish Center (or "Irish Centre", depending on where you're from).

Located at 10-40 Jackson Avenue in Long Island City, and easily accessible from every part of New York City and the tri-state area, we are truly a center for everyone in the greater New York Irish community.

So whether you're from Ireland, have Irish ancestors, or are Irish at heart, there's a "céad míle fáilte" (hundred thousand welcomes) here for you!

Among the many services offered by the Center are...

  • Information Resource Center - referrals to the many agencies in the New York area who provide specialized services, such as immigration, legal, medical, and personal counseling, to the Irish and non-Irish community - and THE place for finding out about Irish arts, entertainment and cultural events in the New York area - where the "craic" is very very good!

  • Helpline (1-877-ERIN-HELP) with trained volunteers who are available 24x7 to help immigrants who are suffering from homesickness and depression, and for anyone who needs information about services targeted towards the Irish community.

  • Weekly catered lunches for senior citizens, where they can meet old friends and new, and partake in organized information sessions providing advice on healthy living and enjoying their "golden years"

  • On-site counselors/therapists with deep understanding of Irish culture and values, who can help immigrants realize their true potential in the "land of opportunity".

  • An internet cafe, where you can stop in to surf the web and take training classes, and an "Irish Tea Room", where you can enjoy the finest selection of soft drinks and coffee/tea in a convivial atmosphere.

  • A central gathering place, with easy access to transportation, for cultural and fun activities, including old-time dancing, Irish dancing, social functions and parties, concerts, "seisiúns" (traditional Irish music), plays and card nights ("25" is a big hit!), in the New York tri-state area.

So whether you living in the New York area, or if you're planning a trip to the Big Apple and want to know what's going on in the Irish scene in this great city, visit our "Information" section, call us at (718) 482-0909, or drop us a line at info@newyorkirishcenter.org or through our "Contact" page. We look forward to seeing you soon!
