Mary Bergin is Ireland's greatest tin whistle player. Her landmark 1979 album Feadóga Stáin was one of the most influential recordings in the history of Irish traditional music. Mary's unprecedented virtuosity almost single-handedly raised the status of the humble whistle from that of a child's toy to a serious vehicle for Irish music of the highest order, inspiring thousands of players to take up the instrument. In the decades since, she has released a second solo album, recorded and toured with the Baroque/Irish fusion group Dordán, authored a two-volume Irish Tin Whistle Tutor, and performed around the world at Irish festivals and teaching weeks, including the Catskills Irish Arts Week. Mary will be accompanied at this concert by Scottish-born bouzouki player and singer Alan Murray. Some of the best students of fiddle/pianist Michelle Bergin (no relation!) of the Woodlawn School of Irish Music in the Bronx will play an introductory set.
